Overview

Peptidylprolyl isomerase E like (PPIEL) is a transcribed pseudogene in humans, closely related in DNA sequence to the functional Peptidylprolyl isomerase E (PPIE) gene. While PPIE is an active cyclophilin involved in protein folding and immune regulation[1][7], PPIEL is not translated into a functional protein, does not participate in catalysis, and is therefore not considered a therapeutic target. However, differential expression or DNA methylation at the PPIEL locus has been observed in some diseases, suggesting possible biomarker value, though its mechanistic significance remains unclear[9][3].
