Target intelligence / Profile preview
Perflutren microsphere-based ultrasound contrast enhancement leverages highly echogenic gas-filled microbubbles administered intravenously to improve diagnostic accuracy across a range of cardiovascular and organ-imaging applications without exposure to ionizing radiation or nephrotoxic risks. While current clinical practice uses non-targeted agents confined within vasculature, ongoing research aims at expanding capabilities through molecularly targeted formulations for advanced diagnostic purposes.
Acts as a strong reflector of ultrasound waves due to the significant difference in echogenicity between the gas core and surrounding soft tissues. When insonated by an ultrasound beam, these microbubbles oscillate and scatter sound waves much more efficiently than biological tissues. This results in enhanced backscatter signals that create high-contrast images on ultrasound scans.
