Overview

Periodic tryptophan protein 1 homolog (PWP1) is a nuclear, chromatin-associated protein characterized by WD-40 repeats that regulate transcriptional processes. It is integral to rRNA biogenesis mediated by RNA polymerase I, controls the epigenetic status of ribosomal DNA, and is implicated in the regulation of cell cycle–dependent transcriptional events. PWP1 expression is upregulated in certain cancers, including pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and is associated with disease such as adenocarcinoma and porokeratosis. PWP1 is not currently classified as a receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target and has no approved interacting drugs, mechanisms of drug action, or established biomarker or safety roles[2][6][8][4][3].
