Peripheral motor neurons are nerve cells that originate in the spinal cord or brainstem and project their axons out into the periphery to innervate skeletal muscles, glands, or organs. They transmit signals from the central nervous system to effectors in the body, enabling voluntary movements like walking and writing as well as involuntary actions such as reflexes and autonomic functions.
