Peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22) is an integral membrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in Schwann cells of the peripheral nervous system. It plays a crucial role in the formation, maintenance, and function of compact myelin sheaths that insulate axons and facilitate rapid nerve impulse conduction. Genetic alterations in *PMP22* are among the most common causes of inherited peripheral neuropathies.
