Overview

Mechanism of action

Drugs interacting with these fibers typically block voltage-gated sodium channels to inhibit action potential propagation (e.g., local anesthetics, anticonvulsants), activate or desensitize the TRPV1 receptor (e.g., capsaicin), bind and activate opioid receptors to inhibit neurotransmitter release, or reduce inflammatory mediator release or signaling.
