Target intelligence / Profile preview
The peritoneal membrane is a continuous serous membrane lining the abdominal cavity and covering most abdominal organs. It consists of the parietal peritoneum (lining the abdominal wall) and the visceral peritoneum (covering the organs), with the peritoneal cavity in between. It provides support, lubrication, and immune defense, and serves as a conduit for blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerves. It is involved in several disease processes including peritonitis, ascites and adhesions. Its selective permeability makes it suitable for use in peritoneal dialysis.
