Overview
Peroxiredoxin-1 (PRDX1) is an antioxidant enzyme that detoxifies peroxides, particularly hydrogen peroxide. It functions as a sensor for hydrogen peroxide-mediated signaling events within cells and plays roles in cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis regulation, and cell cycle control. PRDX1 can act both as a tumor suppressor and be overexpressed to provide survival advantages for malignant cells. It is involved in redox-dependent cellular signaling, regulation of ROS levels, and cell cycle checkpoint control.
