Peroxiredoxin 2 pseudogene 1 (PRDX2P1) is a genomic locus classified as a pseudogene; it comprises DNA that resembles the peroxiredoxin 2 gene but contains disabling mutations and generally does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes can be processed or non-processed depending on their origin; processed pseudogenes arise by retrotransposition and typically lack introns and upstream regulatory sequences, whereas non-processed pseudogenes result from gene duplication and can retain introns.
