Peroxiredoxin 3 pseudogene 1 (PRDX3P1)

Target
PRDX3P1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

Peroxiredoxin 3 pseudogene 1 (PRDX3P1) is a human pseudogene. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes such as PRDX3P1 do not encode proteins, and generally arise through duplication or retrotransposition events that result in gene copies rendered nonfunctional by mutations. PRDX3P1 is related by sequence similarity to the peroxiredoxin 3 gene but does not yield a functional protein product[2]. There are no reports of PRDX3P1 being used, studied, or proposed as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or molecule of interest in drug discovery or disease research. Its principal value is as a marker for genomic annotation and studies of evolutionary genetics.

Mechanism of action

None known; not targeted by drugs

03

Biological functions

None known with direct protein functionPseudogenes may act through regulatory roles (e.g., as non-coding RNAs or competing endogenous RNAs/ceRNAs), but no specific function is substantiated for PRDX3P1 in the current literature
