Overview

Peroxiredoxin 4 pseudogene (ENSG00000276332) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA in the human genome that closely resembles the sequence of the functional peroxiredoxin 4 gene, but has accumulated mutations that prevent expression of a functional protein. Pseudogenes like this one are the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events, followed by disablement such as insertions, deletions, and frameshifts. Peroxiredoxin 4 pseudogene does not participate in cellular processes, disease mechanisms, or therapeutic targeting. Its sequence may occasionally be transcribed at low levels, but these transcripts have no known biological function and it does not influence health or disease directly[2][1].
