Peroxiredoxin-like 2A (PRXL2A) is a redox-regulatory and antioxidant protein encoded by the FAM213A gene in humans[1][3][7]. It acts as an antioxidant, involved in cellular protection against oxidative stress, and modulates the redox state of cells[1][2][7]. Functionally, PRXL2A negatively regulates macrophage-mediated inflammation—likely through suppression of the MAPK signaling pathway—and inhibits osteoclast differentiation by suppressing activation of NFKB1 and JUN, which may influence bone resorption and help maintain bone mass[1][5][7]. It is mainly localized in the cytoplasm[1]. Currently, PRXL2A is not known to be an established therapeutic target of any approved or investigational drugs, nor does it serve as a clinical biomarker or have documented safety concerns as a therapeutic target.
