Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα)

Target
PPARα
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Nuclear receptor
01

Overview

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), also known as NR1C1, is a ligand-activated transcription factor and a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily. It plays a central role in regulating lipid metabolism, energy homeostasis, inflammation, and vascular biology.

Other names
NR1C1Nuclear receptor subfamily 1, group C, member 1
02

Mechanism of action

Agonists bind to PPARα, forming heterodimers with RXR, and bind to PPREs to regulate transcription of target genes involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and other processes.
