PERP pseudogene 2 (PERPP2)

PERP pseudogene 2 (PERPP2) is annotated as a pseudogene—a genomic DNA sequence similar to a functional gene but generally non-functional due to mutations or deletions that undermine its ability to encode a protein[7][9]. There is no evidence that PERPP2 is transcribed into a functional RNA or protein, nor any established biological or therapeutic relevance. Its parental gene, PERP (p53 apoptosis effector related to PMP22), plays important roles in cell-cell adhesion and tumor suppression, but PERPP2 itself does not contribute to these functions as a pseudogene[3][9]. Current data indicate that PERPP2 is not recognized as a disease gene, therapeutic target, or clinically relevant biomarker.
