PERP pseudogene 3 (PERPP3) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 6 at 6p22.3[1][5]. Unlike protein-coding genes, processed pseudogenes typically lack the ability to produce functional proteins due to mutations or truncations[6]. While some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression through mechanisms such as serving as miRNA decoys (competing endogenous RNAs or ceRNAs), there is no specific evidence or detailed research linking PERPP3 to such a regulatory function. PERPP3 should not be considered a therapeutic molecular target (receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.). Notably, confusion can occur when pseudogenes are misannotated as active genes or targets, potentially affecting genetic analyses and variant interpretation[6]. If you intended the functional PERP gene (P53 apoptosis effector related to PMP22, a protein-coding gene), it is different from PERP pseudogene 3 and does serve important roles in cell adhesion and apoptosis, but PERPP3 itself is not a direct molecular target[7].
