Persistent Sodium Current (INaP)

Target
INaP
Molecular classification
Ion Channel, Voltage-Gated Ion Channel, Sodium Channel
01

Overview

The persistent sodium current (INaP) is a sub-threshold inward electrical current generated by voltage-gated sodium channels (NaVs) that do not fully inactivate after membrane depolarization. It plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability, pacemaking, and sensory signal prolongation, and is implicated in diseases like epilepsy, neuropathic pain, cardiac arrhythmia, and ALS.
