Overview
Pertactin is a highly immunogenic outer membrane protein and virulence factor produced by *Bordetella pertussis*, the bacterium responsible for whooping cough (pertussis). It acts as an adhesin, promoting attachment of bacteria to tracheal epithelial cells and is a key antigen in acellular pertussis vaccines.
