PEST containing nuclear protein pseudogene 1 (PCNPP1) is a human pseudogene listed in genetic databases as a non-protein-coding locus, meaning it does not produce a functional protein product[2][4]. It is also known by the alias PCNPP. By definition, pseudogenes are generally considered transcriptionally inactive, and there is currently no evidence that PCNPP1 has independent biological functions, roles in disease, or therapeutic potential[2][4]. This is distinct from PEST-containing nuclear protein (PCNP), a functional protein involved in tumorigenesis and cell cycle regulation, which is often incorrectly conflated with PCNPP1 due to the similarity in names[1][3][5]. Thus, PCNPP1 is not a therapeutic target, does not participate in signal transduction, cancer, or other disease pathways, and there are no drugs or mechanisms of action associated with it.
