PEX5L antisense RNA 2 (PEX5L-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the opposite strand of the PEX5L gene locus on human chromosome 3. As an antisense RNA, it does not code for a protein but is thought to regulate gene expression either of PEX5L (Peroxisomal biogenesis factor 5 like) or potentially other genes, likely through mechanisms common to antisense lncRNAs such as chromatin remodeling, RNA interference, or modulation of epigenetic marks. PEX5L-AS2 is catalogued in genomic databases (NCBI Gene: 100505598; Ensembl: ENSG00000244302), but there is currently no published functional characterization, implication in specific diseases, or interactions with therapeutics.
