PHB1 pseudogene 3 (PHB1P3) is a human pseudogene related to the PHB1 protein-coding gene[5]. Unlike PHB1, which encodes a protein involved in mitochondrial function, tumor suppression, and cell signaling[1][3][4], PHB1P3 does not code for a functional protein. Sequence similarity to PHB1 is conserved, but PHB1P3 is not known to produce a biologically active RNA that regulates cellular processes or to be directly involved in disease. Some pseudogenes of PHB1, such as PHBP1, can regulate the parent gene’s expression via RNA-RNA interactions and have been implicated in cancer biology[2], but PHB1P3 does not have such documented functions. There are no drugs, biomarkers, or direct therapeutic applications linked to PHB1P3, and it is not considered a classical therapeutic target.
