Overview

PHB1 pseudogene 4 (PHB1P4) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence similar to a protein-coding gene but generally considered non-functional due to loss of coding potential, lack of protein expression, or disabling mutations[5]. There is no evidence that PHB1P4 encodes a functional protein, nor that it acts as a therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.). No references describe PHB1P4 having a biological function, involvement in disease, or interaction with drugs. Its annotation is as a pseudogene related to the prohibitin 1 (PHB1) gene, which itself is functionally significant in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cancer, but PHB1P4 does not share these attributes[5]. There is no evidence that PHB1P4 serves as a biomarker or has associated safety concerns. Any references to "prohibitin pseudogene" functions in disease primarily refer to other pseudogenes, such as PHBP1[4], but not PHB1P4. Note: PHB1P4 should not be confused with the protein-coding PHB1 gene, which has established roles in cell biology and disease. PHB1P4 is not considered a biologically or pharmacologically relevant target[1][4][5].
