PHB2 pseudogene 1 (PHB2P1) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA resembling the *Prohibitin 2* gene, but it does not encode a protein and has no direct known biological activity. Pseudogenes are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and usually do not produce functional products. The functional homolog, *Prohibitin 2* (PHB2), is a mitochondrial and nuclear protein involved in regulation of mitochondrial morphogenesis, cell signaling, and transcriptional co-regulation, and is implicated in a variety of disease states including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders[1][2][3]. However, PHB2P1 itself is not established as a therapeutic target, nor is there evidence that it plays an active role in disease pathways or drug response.
