Overview

PHD finger protein 24 (PHF24) is a protein that contains a plant homeodomain (PHD) zinc finger, a structurally conserved module found in proteins that typically interact with and regulate chromatin structure[1][2]. PHF24 is predicted to enable transcription corepressor activity and is involved in the negative regulation of DNA-templated transcription[2]. Functional annotation suggests it plays upstream regulatory roles in biological processes such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) signaling and the detection of mechanical stimuli related to pain perception[2]. Like other PHD finger proteins, PHF24 likely functions as a modular zinc-binding scaffold, mediating protein–protein interactions and potentially serving as a structural platform for assembling or regulating multi-protein complexes[2][1]. PHD fingers are known as “reader” domains for specific histone marks, playing essential roles in recruiting chromatin remodeling complexes and regulating gene expression patterns, but PHF24 is not currently established as a major therapeutic target[1][3]. No interacting drugs, mechanisms of drug action, or established biomarker roles are described for PHF24[2].
