PHD finger protein 5A pseudogene (PHF5A pseudogene)

Target
PHF5A pseudogene
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene
01

Overview

PHD finger protein 5A pseudogene is a nonfunctional DNA sequence in the human genome derived from the protein-coding gene PHF5A through retrotransposition or gene duplication processes. Pseudogenes like this one typically do not code for proteins and lack biological activity; they can be identified by sequence similarity to functional genes but accumulate disabling mutations and are incapable of producing functional proteins. Pseudogenes are generally classified as "junk DNA," although some rare pseudogenes have been found to exert regulatory roles through their RNA transcripts. However, there is no evidence the PHF5A pseudogene holds such a role. It is not considered a molecular therapeutic target or a clinically actionable biomarker.
