Phenazine biosynthesis-like domain-containing protein (PBLD) is a human protein encoded by the PBLD gene on chromosome 10. It is the only known mammalian representative of the phenazine biosynthesis-like family, which is structurally related to bacterial enzymes involved in secondary metabolite synthesis. However, the exact molecular and catalytic function of PBLD in humans remains unknown. It is widely expressed across tissues and has been associated with various disease processes, including cancer (as a tumor suppressor), metabolic disorders, and responses to viral infection and folate deficiency. Current knowledge suggests it has protein binding activity and may regulate signaling pathways influencing epithelial maintenance and cellular stress responses[1][2][3][9]. No drugs are known to target PBLD directly, and its enzyme activity in humans is not well defined.
