Target intelligence / Profile preview

PHKA2 antisense RNA 1 (PHKA2-AS1)

Target
PHKA2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)
01

Overview

PHKA2 antisense RNA 1 (PHKA2-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from the opposite strand of the PHKA2 gene. It does not encode a protein but may regulate PHKA2 or other genes via antisense mechanisms or other lncRNA-associated pathways. PHKA2-AS1 has been found to be differentially expressed in certain cancers, suggesting a possible regulatory or biomarker role. There is no evidence that it is a classical drug target, enzyme, transporter, or receptor, and its molecular functions and clinical significance remain the subject of ongoing research

02

Mechanism of action

Not established for drugs, as PHKA2-AS1 is not a therapeutic target

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (exact function not definitively established; general lncRNA roles include chromatin remodeling, transcriptional and post-transcriptional modulation)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (differential expression reported in breast cancer and potentially other cancers)Glycogen storage diseases association due to proximity to PHKA2 gene, but no direct pathogenic role firmly established
05

Safety considerations

None reported; there are no therapies targeting PHKA2-AS1, so therapeutic risks are unknown
06

Biomarkers

Investigated as a potential biomarker for cancer, particularly through gene expression profiling in breast cancer; more research required for validation
