Overview

PHLDA1 antisense RNA 1 (PHLDA1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the PHLDA1 locus. Like other lncRNAs, PHLDA1-AS1 does not code for protein but may have regulatory roles at the level of transcription, chromatin modification, or post-transcriptional processes. There is currently no strong evidence that PHLDA1-AS1 is itself a therapeutic target, nor that it has a well-established function as a regulator or direct player in human disease. While antisense lncRNAs can potentially regulate the expression of their sense gene partners or be dysregulated in disease, specific mechanisms, biological functions, or associations with diseases for PHLDA1-AS1 remain to be fully established in the literature reviewed[3]. Therefore, it is not generally considered a canonical drug target like receptors, enzymes, or transporters.
