Overview

Phosducin-like protein is a cytoplasmic protein encoded by the PDCL gene in humans. It shares significant sequence homology with phosducin, a phosphoprotein in the retina and pineal gland. Phosducin-like protein regulates G-protein signaling by binding to the beta-gamma subunits of heterotrimeric G proteins, modulating their interaction with alpha subunits, effectors, and membranes. It acts as a co-chaperone for the CCT complex, facilitating assembly of G protein complexes such as Gbeta-Ggamma and RGS-Gbeta5 heterodimers. The protein also participates in ciliary function and is implicated as a positive regulator of hedgehog signaling.
