Overview

PTEN is a dual-specificity phosphatase that functions as a tumor suppressor by dephosphorylating PIP3, thus antagonizing the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Loss or mutation of PTEN leads to uncontrolled cell proliferation and tumorigenesis. It also plays a role in DNA repair and genomic stability. PTEN is a therapeutic target in cancers with deficient PTEN function.
