Overview

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase gamma (PI3Kγ) is a lipid kinase that phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol(4,5)-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P₂] to generate phosphatidylinositol(3,4,5)-trisphosphate [PI(3,4,5)P₃]. It plays a crucial role in immune cell function, particularly in myeloid cells, and is involved in chemotaxis, cytokine release, and inflammatory responses. PI3Kγ is activated downstream of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and receptor tyrosine kinases. It is considered a drug target for cancer therapy and immune disorders.
