Phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type III beta (PI4KB) is a lipid kinase enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of phosphatidylinositol (PI) to generate phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P), a key intermediate in the biosynthesis of other important signaling lipids. PI4KB plays essential roles in cell biology, including regulation of membrane trafficking, cell shape, migration, and focal adhesion dynamics. It has emerged as a promising drug target for viral infections and malaria due to its involvement in viral replication platforms and parasite survival.
Inhibition of PI4KB prevents PI4P production, disrupting viral replication and/or parasite survival.
