Phosphatidylinositol glycan anchor biosynthesis class U pseudogene 1 (PIGUP1)

Target
PIGUP1
Molecular classification
Other (processed pseudogene)
01

Overview

PIGUP1 is annotated as a processed pseudogene in humans, as shown in Ensembl and HGNC[3]. Pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional DNA segments resembling protein-coding genes but that have lost coding potential due to mutations, deletions, or truncations. There is no evidence in authoritative genomic databases, recent literature, or curated gene resources of any protein product, biological function, or disease association for PIGUP1. It is not an established drug target, nor does it have therapeutic, diagnostic, or biomarker relevance. The naming can sometimes cause confusion with other “PIG” gene family members that are involved in GPI anchor biosynthesis, which are functional genes with therapeutic significance. However, PIGUP1 itself is specifically indicated as a pseudogene and should not be considered a molecular target[3].
