Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4)

Target
PDE4
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Phosphodiesterase, Phosphoric diester hydrolase
01

Overview

Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) is an intracellular enzyme that specifically hydrolyzes cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a key second messenger involved in regulating numerous physiological processes such as inflammation, immune responses, neural activity, learning, and memory. Inhibition of PDE4 leads to increased intracellular cAMP levels with anti-inflammatory effects, which underpins its therapeutic use for several diseases.
