Phosphodiesterase 7A (PDE7A) is a high-affinity, cAMP-specific 3',5'-cyclic phosphodiesterase enzyme. By controlling cAMP levels, it plays a key role in modulating cellular responses to various stimuli. It is highly expressed in immune cells such as T lymphocytes and several brain regions. Research suggests that selective inhibitors targeting PDE7 could be beneficial for treating autoimmune diseases mediated by T cells as well as central nervous system disorders such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease due to its regulatory role on neuronal survival pathways via cAMP signaling modulation.
Selective inhibition of PDE7A leads to increased intracellular cAMP levels.
