Phosphodiesterase 7B (PDE7B)

Target
PDE7B
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase, cAMP-specific phosphodiesterase
01

Overview

Phosphodiesterase 7B (PDE7B) is a 446-amino acid enzyme with a molecular mass of ~50 kDa, most highly expressed in pancreas, brain, heart, thyroid, skeletal muscle, and other tissues. It hydrolyzes cAMP to 5'-AMP, regulating physiological processes dependent on cyclic nucleotide signaling. PDE7B belongs to the PDE7 gene family and has high affinity for cAMP, with little activity for cGMP. PDE7B is inhibited in vitro by several nonselective and semiselective phosphodiesterase inhibitors, supporting its characterization as a druggable target. Its biological and potential disease roles are subject to ongoing investigation, including speculation about implication in pancreatic function, neural activity, and inflammatory signaling.
