Phosphoglycerate kinase 1 pseudogene 1 (PGK1P1) is a human genomic pseudogene sequence related to the protein-coding phosphoglycerate kinase 1 gene. Unlike PGK1, which encodes a major glycolytic enzyme, PGK1P1 does not code for a functional protein and has no enzymatic or signaling activity. It is classified as a non-protein-coding pseudogene, and there is no evidence linking it to human disease, drug interactions, or therapeutic targeting[5][4]. PGK1P1 should not be confused with the functional enzyme phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1), which is involved in glycolysis and linked to metabolic disorders and cancer. While PGK1 pseudogenes exist throughout the genome, including PGK1P1, these do not have the structure or function necessary to impact cellular metabolism or serve as drug targets[4][5].
