Phosphoglycerate mutase 1 pseudogene (PGAM1P1)

Target
PGAM1P1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Phosphoglycerate mutase 1 pseudogene encodes a non-functional, processed pseudogene of the phosphoglycerate mutase 1 gene. It arose from retrotransposition of PGAM1 mRNA and has features typical of processed pseudogenes, such as high sequence similarity to its parent gene and lack of introns. It is located within the Menkes disease gene (ATP7A) on the X chromosome, but has not been detected as expressed in human tissues and has no known protein-coding function. This pseudogene is sometimes incorrectly referenced in the context of drug targets or disease biology, but it should not be confused with the functional metabolic enzyme PGAM1. Key distinctions: PGAM1P1 (the pseudogene) is NOT to be confused with PGAM1 (the enzyme), which is a target in oncology and metabolism research. The pseudogene is non-functional and there is no evidence it plays a role in disease or has interactions with drugs designed to modulate glycolysis or cancer cell proliferation.

02

Mechanism of action

None applicable. Mechanisms described for PGAM1 (e.g., glycolysis inhibition, cancer cell proliferation attenuation) do not apply to the pseudogene

03

Biological functions

None known. As a processed pseudogene, it is not known to produce a functional protein, nor to participate in metabolic or signaling pathways
04

Disease associations

None directly. The protein-coding PGAM1 is involved in cancer biology, but the pseudogene has no established direct roles in disease
05

Safety considerations

None specific. Since it is non-functional, there are no therapeutic safety concerns associated with this pseudogene
06

Interacting drugs

None. Drugs targeting PGAM1 do not interact with this pseudogene
07

Biomarkers

None. The pseudogene is not used as a biomarker for patient selection or therapeutic monitoring
