Phosphoglycerate mutase 1 pseudogene 1 (PGAM1P1) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome[1][5][8]. It originates from a retrotransposed copy of the mRNA of the parent gene, phosphoglycerate mutase 1 (PGAM1), and harbors high sequence similarity to the functional PGAM1 gene[5][1]. Unlike PGAM1, which encodes an enzyme involved in glycolysis, PGAM1P1 does not encode a functional protein. Expression analysis and research indicate that PGAM1P1 is not actively transcribed in human tissues and does not participate in biological processes or disease mechanisms[5]. Pseudogenes like PGAM1P1 do not serve as therapeutic targets, biomarkers, or have known safety implications for drug discovery and development[1][5][8].
