Overview

Phosphoglycerate mutase 1 pseudogene 6 (PGAM1P6) is a non-coding, processed pseudogene related to the phosphoglycerate mutase 1 gene. Unlike its protein-coding parent gene PGAM1, PGAM1P6 does not produce a functional protein and has no established biological or pathological function. As is typical for processed pseudogenes, it is formed via retrotransposition, lacks introns, and may contain disabling mutations such as premature stop codons. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory effects (e.g., acting as competing endogenous RNAs), there is currently no evidence that PGAM1P6 serves as a therapeutic target or biomarker for disease. It is closely related to the protein-coding gene for phosphoglycerate mutase 1 (PGAM1), but lacks protein-coding capability and is not itself an active therapeutic target. PGAM1P6 is not the same as PGAM1; PGAM1 encodes a glycolytic enzyme and is a research therapeutic target, particularly in cancer, but PGAM1P6 is only a noncoding DNA segment and not a target.
