Target intelligence / Profile preview

Phosphoinositide 3-kinase beta isoform (PI3Kβ)

Target
PI3Kβ
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Kinase, Phosphoinositide 3-kinase, Class IA PI3K
01

Overview

PI3Kβ is a class IA phosphoinositide 3-kinase catalytic subunit that plays critical roles in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, motility, survival, and intracellular trafficking. It integrates signals from receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), G protein–coupled receptors (GPCRs), and Rho-family small GTPases. PI3Kβ regulates invadopodia maturation in tumor cells and is essential for osteoclast development/function. Dysregulation or mutation contributes to cancer progression/metastasis and bone disorders. It is ubiquitously expressed but has particularly important functions in reproductive organs, immune cells, bone-resorbing osteoclasts and platelets.
