Phospholipase A2 group IIC (PLA2G2C) is a member of the secreted phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) family of enzymes, which hydrolyze the fatty acid at the sn-2 position of glycerophospholipids, releasing free fatty acids (such as arachidonic acid) and lysophospholipids[1][3]. Secreted PLA2 enzymes are implicated in lipid signaling, eicosanoid biosynthesis, and innate immune responses[1][2][4]. While group IIA sPLA2 is well studied and has potent anti-bacterial activity, the functions of group IIC remain less clear, and research into its precise role and tissue distribution is ongoing. Like other secreted PLA2s, it is calcium-dependent, has a conserved catalytic dyad (His/Asp), and may participate in innate immunity and inflammation, but direct clinical relevance and disease links for group IIC are not yet established[1][3][2]. No drugs or modulators are known to specifically target this enzyme as of current literature. Note: - Much more is known about other sPLA2 family members (e.g., group IIA, V, X) than about group IIC. Key molecular and functional characterizations of PLA2 group IIC are still lacking in the scientific literature[1][3]. - Disease roles and drug/biomarker associations are inferred from general PLA2 family properties, as direct, PLA2G2C-specific evidence is scant. - Some alternate nomenclature (sPLA2-IIC, PLA2-G2C, etc.) may be used in older or non-human studies. - There are no obvious misspellings or erroneous aspects in the target name; it is correctly specified as “Phospholipase A2 group IIC.”
