Phospholipase A2 group IVF (PLA2G4F)

Target
PLA2G4F
Molecular classification
Enzyme, C2 domain containing protein, Lipid hydrolase
01

Overview

Phospholipase A2 group IVF (PLA2G4F) is a calcium-dependent cytosolic enzyme that preferentially hydrolyzes the ester bond at the sn-2 position of phospholipids, releasing fatty acids such as arachidonic acid, which serve as precursors for eicosanoid signaling molecules. It is part of the cPLA2 family (C2 domain subfamily), predicted to localize to the cytosol, mitochondria, plasma membrane, and associated vesicles, and to participate in membrane lipid remodeling and generation of bioactive lipid mediators. Pathways implicated include prostaglandin biosynthesis and mitochondrial lipid metabolism. While related PLA2 isoforms are established drug targets, PLA2G4F itself currently has no known direct drug inhibitors or established clinical targeting indications.
