Overview

Phospholipase B domain-containing protein 1 (PLBD1) is a human gene encoding a protein of the phospholipase B-like family. PLBD1 is predicted to possess phospholipase activity, potentially participating in phospholipid catabolism and possibly acting as an amidase or peptidase, but its true catalytic function and physiological substrate remain uncharacterized[1][5][6]. It likely localizes to the extracellular space and/or lysosome, indicating a possible role in lipid processing or turnover[1][6]. PLBD1 has a conserved structural fold shared with other NTN hydrolases, but very limited functional annotation; its loss may theoretically lead to lysosomal storage issues but no such phenotype is documented. There are no drugs, diagnostic tests, or therapies known to target PLBD1.

Biological functions

Lipid metabolism (predicted involvement in phospholipid catabolic process[6])Possible amidase or peptidase activity (based on binding pocket analysis[5])Lysosomal/extracellular localization (may play a role in lysosomal protein targeting and processing[1][6])Function largely unknown ("semi-orphan" enzyme, physiological substrate not yet validated[1])
