Phosphopantothenoylcysteine synthetase pseudogene (ENSG00000216613, also known as LOC124901409) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence that closely resembles the gene encoding phosphopantothenoylcysteine synthetase. The functional enzyme catalyzes a key step in coenzyme A biosynthesis, but the pseudogene lacks protein-coding potential due to acquired mutations or genetic rearrangements. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed as noncoding RNAs and participate in gene regulation, for example by acting as decoys for microRNAs or generating regulatory siRNAs, most are not suitable targets for drugs or direct clinical intervention. No interacting drugs, therapeutic mechanisms, or validated biomarker roles are associated with this pseudogene, and it should not be listed as a canonical pharmacological target.
