Phosphorus ion homeostasis refers to the biological processes that maintain a stable internal concentration of phosphate ions within an organism or cell. This balance is essential for numerous physiological functions, including bone mineralization, energy metabolism (ATP production), cell signaling (via phosphorylation), nucleic acid structure, and acid–base buffering. Disruption in phosphorus homeostasis can lead to bone disorders, vascular calcification, or metabolic disturbances.
