The phosphorylated adaptor for RNA export pseudogene (ENSG00000254712, PHAX pseudogene) is a non-protein coding segment of DNA similar to the PHAX gene. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences resembling known genes but have lost their protein-coding potential due to mutation or evolutionary divergence. While once considered genomic "junk," some pseudogenes produce noncoding RNA transcripts, which can participate in gene regulation through microRNA decoy mechanisms or competitive endogenous RNA effects. However, there is no evidence that the PHAX pseudogene plays a direct protein-coding or receptor function. It is not considered a therapeutic target and does not have direct involvement in any drug mechanism, nor is it linked with disease via protein function.
