The photodynamic effect refers to the cellular and molecular consequences of photodynamic therapy (PDT). It involves the use of a photosensitizer, light, and oxygen to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause oxidative damage to cellular components, leading to cell death. The selectivity of PDT arises from preferential accumulation of photosensitizers in diseased tissues and spatial control of light delivery.
