The term is used in cosmetic, reconstructive, and regenerative medicine[1][3][7]. Common materials include hyaluronic acid, collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, autologous fat, and silicone implants[7][1][3]. Effects include structural support and restoration rather than alteration of signal transduction or metabolic pathways. These procedures may have risks such as allergy, infection, tissue injury, or unsatisfactory cosmetic results[3][7]. There is no "target" as defined in molecular pharmacology (receptor, enzyme, transporter).
