Physical wound surface

A physical wound surface refers to the external or internal anatomical location where tissue integrity has been disrupted due to trauma (such as cuts, burns, or ulcers) or disease. This site is characterized by the exposure of underlying tissue and activation of complex wound healing processes, including hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation (granulation tissue formation, angiogenesis), and remodeling. While many drugs and dressings are applied to, or act at, the wound/tissue surface, this term does not denote a protein, receptor, enzyme, or other molecular therapeutic target. Instead, it broadly encompasses the physical area requiring healing, protection, and treatment[1][2][4][5][6].
