The physiological ionic milieu represents the complex and highly regulated distribution of ions, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride, across the body's fluid compartments. This environment is fundamental to life, providing the electrochemical gradients necessary for nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, and the maintenance of cellular volume and pH (StatPearls, 2023). While it is not a discrete protein or receptor, it serves as a critical systemic target for clinical management in acute and chronic care.
